Last night I went to a Blogging class at the Rochester Brainery with Ashley over at Saving Money in Your Twenties. Blogging friends are awesome … you can talk all things blogging and they get what you’re saying!
Now onto the food portion of this post …
I’m a big afternoon snacker. I almost always have a snack around 2-3 p.m. on a work day. It helps tide me over until the end of the day and sometimes just the motion of putting food into my mouth snaps me out of that dreaded 2 p.m. slump.
So what makes a good snack? Well, sometimes it’s hard to distinguish between a snack and a “treat.” Ideally, snacks will have a main source of protein supplemented by healthy fats and complex carbohydrates like veggies to help satiate your mind and stomach. I try to avoid simple carbs and grains to avoid feeling lethargic and bloated.
Some studies even link snacking with weightloss. Read about that here.
I’m always looking for new snack ideas! It gets old eating the same ones every day.
My Top Snacks:
-Olives — pitted or stuffed
-Carrots + hummus
-Cottage cheese with jam or veggie
-Apple sliced with nut butter or nut butter substitute (Better ‘n Peanut Butter)
-Banana with nut butter, etc.
-Quest protein bar
-Sliced veggie with homemade greek yogurt dip
-Rice cake plain, with jam or nut butter
-Plain greek yogurt with bananas and honey/agave or some pudding/jello mix
-Sliced cucumber with Olive tempendade
-Coffee drink or Iced tea
-Cucumber salad with feta/Italian dressing
And I won’t lie … occasionally some of these make their way into my snacking repertoire.
I want to hear from you!
What are some of your favorite snacks?
